L'Oreal is facing a class-action lawsuit in US for its hair relaxer, which has been accused of creating hair loss instead of what it promises on its packaging, a “visibly fuller, silkier hair."The product is under L'Oreal's Soft Sheen-Carson brand and targets mostly the African American consumers. L'Oreal markets the product. In marketing the product, L'Oreal said the product contained amla oil from an Indian gooseberry which would help with the "fuller" and "silkier" hair. Meanwhile celebrities from The Real Housewives of Atlanta and US first lady Michelle Obama’s hairdresser Johnny Wright was seen touting the product. But according to an article on AFP, the suit argues that the product contained "hardly any" Amla oil and was instead filled with a "dangerous mix of irritants and potentially toxic substances".Meanwhile, L'Oreal’s spokeswoman has come out to defend the product, saying the relaxers are technical products that can be used safely according to the instructions, “We cannot comment on this legal action and L'Oreal USA is following the case closely."
