The most valuable skill sets for a marketing career in 2014

Further expanding on the study conducted by EMR, a specialist marketing recruitment consultancy, over half of the 6000 respondents believed the most valuable skill set for 2014 to be digital and online, including social media, PPC, SEO and UX.Second on the list was business development, followed by brand management and content marketing.(Read Also: 90% of marketers are looking for job switches)The study also revealed that, depending on the size of company, employees varied on what skill sets they found more useful. Those in small organisation with less than 50 humans believed business development and account management skills to be more useful, with digital and online coming in third. However, when the organisation goes above 50 employees, digital and online take the lead.Monica Bermeo, managing consultant and practice lead at EMR said: “We have noticed a significant increase in roles requiring candidates with digital/online skill sets. Those candidates possessing these skills are in hot demand and clients will need to look at their retention strategies for 2014 to stop IP walking out the door.”Content marketing and corporate communications/public relations skills are also in high demand in the coming year.
