Responding to how COVID-19 has radically affected daily life and people’s personal finances in Hong Kong, HKBN Group (HKBN) has announced its second #ToughTimesTogether campaign ("Free Broadband for The Disadvantaged") which will provide two years of free residential broadband service to 10,000 individuals and families in financial hardship.

This move follows the brand's recent one-month service fee waiver for its Hong Kong residential and enterprise customers and the provision of communication tools for local care homes. In its official statement, HKBN noted that even though the mass closure of schools across the city has made online education the default, not everyone can afford access to fast broadband. So its "Free Broadband for The Disadvantaged" scheme is hoped to ease this financial burden of what is for many, an essential need.

The free services HKBN will offer to the chronically ill, elderly and students includes a 100Mbps broadband service, Wi-Fi Concierge, a myTV SUPER Alpha Pack, and free installation.

Applications will be open to both existing HKBN customers and those not already signed up and can be made through any of the brand’s seven partner organisations, who will verify the eligibility of applicants. These partners include; Caritas Youth and Community Service, Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor, Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association, St. James' Settlement, The Hong Kong Association for School Discipline and Counseling, and The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation. Applications will be open from 1 April 2020 till 31 August 2020.

HKBN co-owner and chief talent & purpose officer CY Chan said, "As a major telecom and technology solutions provider in Hong Kong, it is our responsibility to deploy our resources to support and improve the lives of those in need. We hope our Free Broadband plan can spark more companies to join us in extending a helping hand, especially at this critical time. Let's tide these #ToughTimesTogether."
