Hong Kong insurance company Bowtie has launched two videos featuring John Tsang that voice support for the city's citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as medical staff and their immediate family members.
Tsang, a senior advisor at Bowtie, (and a popular Hong Kong figure) appears in the first video, recalling his memories of the days during the 2003 SARS outbreak, saying that people at that time were united to fight against the epidemic.
The video also shows behind-the-scenes stories from the production of alcohol rubs with MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node. Under the watchful eye of doctors and professionals, the first phase of production included 10,000 bottles of alcohol wipes which were distributed to Bowtie's clients and organisations, catering to the underprivileged. The company will also be producing more alcohol rubs in future and distribute them to the public for free.
In the second video, Tsang tells the stories of stressed medical staff, who have been working hard to save people's lives while putting themselves at risk, before announcing that Bowtie will offer free Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme plans - launched last year by the Hong Kong government - to medical staff and their families.
"I believe that the insurance industry has to take on more social responsibilities amid the COVID-19 outbreak. We hope to stand with Hong Kong people and help those who are suffering now. The launch of additional protection for all customers also aims to encourage citizens to consult the doctors as soon as possible as a means to help Hongkongers in this period," said Tsang.
