Commercial free ATV for national mourning
Published: May 20, 2008
Hong Kong – ATV’s decision to remove commercial ads during the three days of mourning for China's earthquake victims may cost the network up to HK$25.5 million.
The average monitored media spending on ATV Home and ATV World is approximately HK$8.5 million per day, according to Carat Hong Kong.
Instead of donating money to the victims, ATV has replaced all commercial ads with charity messages from non-governmental organizations and charity teams calling for donations.
TVB, on the other hand, has decided to respect the decisions of the client and continue providing free flow of information to serve the community.
PCCW Now TV is providing urgent assistance to TVB by increasing its capacity to transmit television footages to Hong Kong.
