Skycable takes digital focus
Philippines- SkyCable Corporation, one of Philippines largest cable television operator has announced its decision to spend "a bulk of its expenditure" on digitisation efforts.
SkyCable's expenditure for the year stands at around PHP 1 billion.
With the buy of Destiny Cable, the estimated number of cable TV operator's subscribers is at 180,000.
According to local reports in the BusinessMirror "bulk of the amount will be spent for maintenance and purchase of digital boxes which are essential in curbing cable TV piracy."

The reports come when across the region the broadcast industry is seeing a digital shift. In Singapore all free-to-air (FTA) TV channels are set to go digital by 2013.
In Asia Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Korea are planning to go digital between 2012 and 2015, while Japan has already gone fully digital since June 2011.
Singapore will complete the switchover from analogue to digital broadcasting by 2020, in line with ASEAN's agreed timeframe for making the switch.
