  • Broadcast agreement not so certain yet
  • Tournament is the lead-up to SEA Games Laos

Malaysia - Organisers of the 2009 4-Nations Football Tournament are understood to be close to securing a title sponsor while a distribution agreement remains unclear with regional broadcasters like ESPN STAR Sports still being eyed.

The tournament is being held on 2 October in Laos and will feature the national football teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the host. It is being organised by the Lao Football Federation, Lao National Television, and Crossfire in preparation for the 2009 SEA Games Laos.

At press time, the brand close to signing on as title sponsor was still unknown however it is likely to be an international name which will join other sponsors including Beerlao, TIGO, Don Chan Palace, and CPAC Monier (Laos).

Crossfire is managing the event while Kuala Lumpur headquartered Total Sports Asia's (TSA) involvement is as consultants on event management, sponsorship and television production.

TSA will also act as broadcast distribution agent.

The agency will have the tricky task of pleasing the national interests of the four Football Federations who favour free-to-air while appealing to sponsors who are looking for increased exposure in SE Asia on networks such as ESS.

The 2009 4-Nations Football Tournament is the first official tournament held at the new National Sports Complex in Vientiane Capital and is sanctioned by the Asian Football Confederation.

The Lao Football Federation's goal for this tournament is to help prepare the SEA Games Committee, Lao National Television, and the National Stadium support workers to train in a live tournament before the SEA Games.

TV networks agreeing in principle to broadcast the SEA Games live are Brunei Radio and Television, Lao National Radio and Lao National Television, Lao Star Channel, Forever Group Co. Ltd (FRTB4-Myanmar), MediaCorp TV Singapore, National Broadcasting Service of Thailand (NBT), TPBS, Channel 7, Channel 5, VTC Digital-Vietnam, VTV, TOT, and CAT Telecom.
