TV5 serves up online TV for kids in Asia
Hong Kong - French network TV5MONDE has launched an online TV platform targeting French-speaking children between three to 12 years old that allows them to now watch its programs at their own time zones in Asia.
TiVi5MONDE Plus is a commercial free platform that provides families a tool to accustom their children with the French language.
Children would be able to either watch the channel 'live' consisting of three-hour loop of selected programs or create their own a-lacarte playlist from a catalogue.
Alexandre Muller, managing director, Asia for TV5MONDE, said as a generalist channel targeting a family audience, they value their younger viewers very much.
The company realized that one satellite beam for Asia was not enabling them to reach the children effectively as they are still attending school due to time zones constraints.
"This online TV will give them the opportunity to watch their favourite programs whatever their time zone," he added.
Julien Dutronc, distribution and marketing manager for TV5MONDE, said the launch of this online TV is not based on a short term ad funded strategy but more of a long term pay TV subscription strategy.
He explained this initiative is a marketing tool to get its young users to get used to the media company's content so that they will subscribe to the channel later.
The platform is accessible free-of-charge worldwide including Asia.
It is accessible from the main portal's youth section or from a desktop widget that offers more than 70 hours of content and a further 100 hours early next year.
In Asia, TV5MONDE offers 12 hours of youth content every week from cartoons, educational shows to youth drama under the Tivi5MONDE brand name.
