Arrivals and Departures MMHK March
What a month. The rate of personnel changes taking place in Hong Kong is extraordinary. So where to start? The long running management saga at ATV may have finally settled with the appointment of former Taiwanese actress Nancy Hu Gin-Ing as CEO. Hu replaces Ricky Wong Wai- Kay who lasted just 12 days at the broadcast group. Financial magazines took a battering in March with CFO Asia, CFO China and the 26-year-old Hong Kong Business shutting up shop. The closure of the CFO titles alone is said to have resulted in 16 job losses with Hong Kong Business, part of the Edipresse group, shedding a further 11. The decline of the financial sector is also taking effect elsewhere with PR group Edelman forced to let go of Robert Grieves, Hong Kong president of the Financial Practice Chair. Charles Lankester, currently managing director for Mainland China and Taiwan will take on the role of managing director for Greater China with responsibility for the Hong Kong office. Consolidation is also taking place at Interpublic where Chris Skinner, MD at Initiative, was moved into a take over the management of sister agency Universal McCann. As part of the move, Alice Lam has left Universal McCann. In addition to running Universal and Initiative, Skinner will also serve as managing director of Mediabrands in Hong Kong. Still briefly with media agencies and Adrian Toy, regional interactive director at Universal McCann, jumped back to the client side taking the role of vice president of marketing with eye health company Bausch & Lomb Hong Kong. Finally on a more positive note, the best announcement of the month came via a tweet post from cynthiamania who spilt the beans that Thomas Crampton will be joining OgilvyPR as Asia regional director of Digital Influence. Twittering from a Hong Kong Council of PR Firms event, cynthiamania let slip that Crampton, former correspondent for the International Herald Tribune and The New York Times, would be joining OgilvyPR in a digital role.
