ADFEST: Designs on greatness
Published: Mar 20, 2009
Pattaya – It was a great night for Malaysia in the Design Lotus
category, with BBDO\Proximity winning Best in Show and Saatchi &
Saatchi claiming the only gold award.
There were also nine silver, 10 bronze and 26 finalists awarded in total. This is only the second year of the Design Lotus category, which was introduced last year.
BBDO\Proximity Malaysia won Best of Show for its "Two Worlds" campaign for Jeep, while Saatchis Petaling Jaya was awarded gold for "Ball Point/Felt Tip/Fountain Pen".
There was a broad mix of cities emerging as winners, with Bangkok agencies claiming three silver, Hong Kong winning two silver, two silver each for Sydney and Melbourne shops, and one silver apiece to Manila and Mumbai.
Vince Frost, jury president for Design, said the diversity and mix of cultures in Asia is “so vast, and it’s a real cultural learning to see how people communicate differently in all those countries”.

“There are so many different styles and influences within their work. You don’t see the same diversity in award shows in the UK or America,” he said.
