Husband and wife duo to lead TVB

Hong Kong- Television Broadcast's managing director position will no longer be vacant next year after 74-year-old Mona Fong was appointed to fill the seat yesterday.

Fong, the wife of TVB executive chairman Run Run Shaw, currently works as deputy chairperson, acting managing director and member of the executive committee for the company. Her new role will be effective1 January 2009.

According to TVB, the MD seat had been vacant for more than a year since Louis Page, who left the station for Asia Television (ATV) in 2006 and resigned as CEO of ATV in October.

The media giant cut 212 jobs last week, and told Marketing due to the economic crisis there was a need to "raise efficiency" for the company.
